Residents of Busanza will soon benefit from improved maternal health services as the theatre at Busanza Health Centre IV is set to become operational.
This development was revealed on Tuesday, 7th April, during a supervision visit by officials from the Ministry of Health Uganda, led by the Assistant Commissioner for Reproductive and Infant Health, Dr. Baagara.
He noted that once the facility becomes fully operational, expectant mothers will no longer need to travel long distances to access surgical services such as caesarean sections.
During the visit, Dr. Baagara highlighted several existing challenges at the health centre, particularly the shortage of staff. However, he assured the public that the Ministry is in the process of deploying additional personnel, including three doctors and two midwives, to improve service delivery and reduce absenteeism.

He added that efforts are underway to strengthen maternal health services so that mothers in the area can feel safe and comfortable when seeking care during delivery.
Dr. Baagara also pointed out challenges related to the use of digital systems at the facility. Despite ongoing digitization efforts in Uganda’s health sector, there is still a need for more trained personnel to ensure that patients are attended to efficiently without spending long hours waiting.
The Ministry team also commended the staff of Kisoro General Hospital for their dedication and service. However, they expressed concern over the high number of patients seeking treatment at the hospital.
Dr. Baagara explained that the government is strengthening lower-level health facilities, including Busanza Health Centre IV, to reduce congestion at Kisoro General Hospital and bring services closer to the community.
